Baule
The Baule represent one of the most important tribes of the Ivory Coast. Baule artists produced numerous works of art and Baule carvers are still very active today.
The Balue people use three major type of masks.
The first –
Bonu Amwin helmet mask represents a buffalo´s head with horns. It is sometimes painted with black, white and red pigments.
The second type of mask is characterized by a rounded face with realistic features, pointed chin, semi-circular eyes, raised scarification – typical of the Baule tribe.
Three types of masks are used during the festivals – helmet mask representing a buffalo head beneath antepole horns.
